This fantastic (half) day hike takes you to almost all the highlights of the Siebengebirge. These include the beautiful little half-timbered village of Rhöndorf, the lofty Löwenburg castle ruins, Drachenburg Castle and the epitome of Rhine romance, Drachenfels – all connected by beautiful natural paths.
Depending on how many of the cultural attractions along the way are visited, this hike can quickly become a day hike with a pure walking time of perhaps around 4 hours. In Rhöndorf, for example, you can visit the birthplace of Konrad Adenauer. I would particularly like to recommend a visit to Schloss Drachenburg, a huge villa built in the 1880s in a historical style with a magnificent location. Admission costs €7 for adults, €5 for students and children. Last but not least, the view of Bonn from Drachenfels is unique; on a clear day, you can even see Cologne Cathedral on the horizon.
The quality of the trail is very good for low mountain ranges, with more than two-thirds of it being on paths and nature trails. The enclosed GPS track therefore often leaves the Rheinsteig or other signposted hiking trails to avoid wide gravel paths. Nevertheless, the trail is always easy to recognise and leads through mainly deciduous and mixed forests.
